The Peekaboo Trail Project has been approved!

The DNR has approved 4 miles of trails on Peekaboo Hill (Between Cedarville and Hessel, 1/2 mile North of M134).  This does not mean everything is set to go, it is only approval.  This cannot happen without community involvement.

Next steps:

  • Planning with the DNR - Meeting February 19th 6pm @ The Islander Bar

    • Please attend and be part of the conversation.  Bring your ideas, questions and comments.

  • Funding

    • Applying for grants and seeking donations for matching funds.  A lot of help will be needed.

  • Finding a professional trail designer

    • The trails will be machine built, sustainable single tracks.  They must be designed to follow the land by professional trail designers.

  • Finding a professional trail builder

    • Trail should be built by professional trail builders with mini excavators.

Please join us on February 19th to begin making sustainable trails
in the Les Cheneaux Area a reality.

Our monthly planning meeting will also be taking place at the same time, Feb 19th 6pm @ The Islander

Friends of the Les Cheneaux Area Trail planning committee meetings are now officially the third Tuesday of each month at 6pm. We rotate our meetings across the communities, meeting up at local businesses. We will meet each month to plan out future field trips, projects, and discussions of our favorite recent trail experiences. All are welcome to attend the meetings. Bring your ideas, enthusiasm, and love of local area hiking/biking/wildlife/snowshoeing/skiing trails. As a reminder we seek to help all in the area navigate, exercise and learn about out local trails and ecosystems. It's all about getting outdoors, being healthy, learning, and education. Join us in furthering these efforts.
